OUR HOUSE in SPRING

2006: Our First Spring in South Carolina

Tuesday, May 16, 2006

This is the end of the "Our House in Spring" blog album. I hope you enjoyed seeing these beautiful images of spring around our house this year. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page to begin viewing. Thanks for looking.

We must be getting old because some of our favorite moments in this house have been when we've taken a break - and with a mug of coffee or a glass of wine in hand, we pass some time rocking in the chairs on the front porch. It's wonderful whether we're viewing a soft rain or a sunny sky. So if that simple pleasure makes us old, then so be it. We wouldn't trade it for the world!

Our first gorgeous magnolia blossom!

This magnolia tree is so pretty, we're going to plant more next year.

This is the view from our back porch directly across the golf course.

This is a close-up of the previous photo. We want to put a wooden swing between the trees. There's a beautiful view of the golf course and a little bridge beyond this area. Plus we think it would be lovely to sit and swing under the canopy of tree branches on a nice spring evening.

This is one of our favorite views from our back porch. We have over a half acre of land so our property extends well beyond the image in this photo.

This is our view in the back toward the west in front of the golf course.

The dogwoods were in full bloom outside our bedroom windows.

This is one of our favorite places to sit and read - or sometimes even have dinner. And if Bob's golfing, I can see him on the fairway.

That's me on the back porch waving to Bob. It's so nice to be high above the ground on this porch. There's a roof over our heads, so we can sit outside when it's raining and sometimes it's just so nice to do that.

This is the view looking south over the golf course from our back porch.

This is the brick trimmed walkway leading to our back porch.

This is our brick wall that is situated below our neighbor's stone wall south of the driveway. We had no idea that our wall would be covered in fragrant little white blossoms.

This is the gorgeous view between our house and the one next door looking toward the golf course in the distance.

Another early spring sight was the beautiful red azaleas in our neighbor's yard to the north of us.

This is the view from our front porch opposite the driveway.

This is our view from our front porch.

This little tree right outside my office window was a brilliant red for a few days.

One of the earliest spring images we had were the puffy white dogwood trees. We have a couple of them in the front yard near the end of the driveway.

So far we haven't had rabbits or deer, so the flowers have been fine (knock on wood). We have an abundance of squirrels, but they don't bother flowers.

Our lawn service planted some flowers and added lots of fresh pine straw all around the property. It made everything look rich, clean and better defined.

Next year we hope to have more flowers and a custom made wreath on the front door. We also want to install a black wrought iron railing on either side of the steps, as well as black flowerpot kettles on each of the four corners of the brick courtyard.

We wanted to capture our first spring in South Carolina in this blog album. Never have we owned property with so many trees, shrubs and foliage. I guess we are a bit in awe of the beauty around our house. Or maybe we've just mellowed in our old age. In any case, we hope you enjoy the photos. Click on each image to enlarge it.
